Saturday, April 25th: 10 AM - 1 PM Join us in giving back to the planet during this year's Arbor Day! Volunteers will join our Parks and Urban Forestry teams in important tree care, tree planting, and clean-up along the 9-Line Trail. Location: 9-Line Trail (900 S 800 W) Meeting point: 9-Line Community Garden Parking: Street parking is available throughout the surrounding area (no central lot). Carpooling and/or taking public transit is encouraged! Project Activities: Planting trees, adding tree wells to existing trees, picking up trash, removing foliage What We’ll Provide: Tools Water Gloves (while supplies last) Lunch What Volunteers Should Bring: Water bottle Work gloves (optional, but recommended) Clothing suitable for outdoor work Sunscreen Schedule: 9:30 AM - Volunteers can begin to check in 10 AM - Orientation & safety demonstrations 10:15 AM-12:15 PM - Projects 12:15 PM - Return tools 12:30-1 PM - Proclamation reading & lunch!

We will be getting hands-on, removing invasive weeds from the trail area while enjoying beautiful springtime views of the city and connecting with fellow community members. Bring a water bottle, clothes that you're comfortable working in (and getting a little dirty), close-toed shoes, and gloves if you have them.

Come celebrate trees at Fairmont Park for Earth Day with a Tree Care Event! We will prepare our lovely trees for a warm summer by ensuring they are well mulched. We will remove grass near the tree bases to protect from mowing damage. Trees are a special part of the park. We need strong backs to dig and anyone can help us carry away buckets of sod and spread mulch. Come have fun and make a difference! - Meet at the table in front of the Ranger Trailer.

Wednesday, May 20th: 9 AM - 12 PM OR 5:30 - 8:30 PM Help restore the native ecology of the Jordan River by joining a native planting/weeding session! Volunteers will plant native plant sprouts and seedlings alongside professional ecologist in the Cornell Wetlands area of the JRT, which will increase biodiversity and contribute to ecological health. Bring close-toed shoes, knee pads (if you want them), water, and sun protection. Dress for spring weather! Choose from two shifts that fit your schedule. Friday, May 1st: 2 - 4 PM Join us for a day of community and care as we beautify Jordan Park! Come help maintain and clean up the park to contribute to a safer, more beautiful public space! Participants can expect to get hands-on - picking up litter and debris, weeding, digging tree wells, or raking gopher mounds, all in and around the dog park! We will be meeting by the dog park, at the very north end of the park. Park in the north lot, off of Montague Ave. Volunteers must register individually to accept volunteer waiver upon registration. Saturday, May 9th: 8 AM - 12 PM Join our Parks staff in beautifying and "perking up" Memory Grove Park! We will be working in a few different areas around the park to clean and brighten up the space. Tasks may include, but are not limited to: digging tree wells and removing sod, cutting back vines from retention walls and trees, moving branches and logs to border the edges of the trail, removing weeds and plant material from beds, planting new plants near the Main Gate and Memorial House, and spreading mulch. Free lunch will be provided at the conclusion of the project. Come meet your neighbors and show your love for the park!

Adding more trees helps provide more shade and cooler temperatures, habitat for wildlife, and more greenery in the beautiful and historic SLC Cemetery.

We will be planting native cactus species under the guidance of restoration ecologists. This task involves working on a slope with little shade, so come prepared with adequate sun protection, water, close-toed shoes, and long pants/sleeve to protect yourself from pesky cactus spines!
