11/10/2026 - Fairmont Pond Cattail Removal with Friends of Fairmont

Salt Lake City Public Lands

Join Salt Lake City Public Lands and our Trails & Natural Lands (TNL) Team for a hands-on stewardship project at Fairmont Pond! We'll be working together to remove overgrown cattails that are taking over portions of the pond. This effort will help manage vegetation and maintain the pond's open-water areas.

TNL staff will be working in the pond wearing waders and cutting cattails. Volunteers will help transfer the cut vegetation from the water to the shoreline, then collect and load the material into a trailer for removal. This will be a physically active project involving lifting, carrying, and working around muddy and wet conditions. Some volunteers may assist along the shallow edges of the pond, while others will work on dry ground.

What to Wear & Bring: Wear sturdy clothing and footwear that can get wet, muddy, and dirty. Waterproof clothing or rain gear is strongly recommended. Avoid materials that absorb and hold water. A limited number of muck boots will be available for volunteers working near the water's edge. Dress appropriately for cooler November temperatures. Bring water and work gloves if you have them. Come prepared to get a little muddy while helping care for one of Salt Lake City's unique urban natural spaces!

Please remove your RSVP if you can't attend so we can plan accordingly
