Salt Lake City Public Lands
Join Salt Lake City Public Lands for a three-week volunteer effort to reduce wildfire risk and improve the health and resilience of Memory Grove Park & Freedom Trail. Volunteers will work alongside Public Lands staff to remove dead vegetation, clear accumulated woody debris, and help establish natural fire breaks throughout the park. This work will reduce potential wildfire fuels, improve defensible space, and support the long-term health of this important natural area. This is a drop-in opportunity! Volunteers are welcome to participate anytime between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday during any of the three project weeks. Whether you can help for an hour or stay for the full session, your contribution will make a difference.
What Volunteers Will Be Doing: Collecting and removing dead branches, brush, and woody debris. Moving cut vegetation and other materials to designated collection areas. Helping clear vegetation to improve natural fire breaks. Supporting Public Lands staff with general fuels reduction and site cleanup. What to Know Before You Go: Physical Requirements: Much of the work will take place on uneven terrain and hillsides, including sloped areas of the park. A moderate level of physical fitness and comfort working on slopes is recommended. Public Lands staff will provide instructions, tools, and guidance throughout the sessions. Volunteers will focus on debris collection and removal, while Public Lands staff perform specialized tasks.
